Obituaries, etc. - Agnew, Amanda, 1867-1923


A[m]anda Shippee, wife of Hiram Shippee, of Springfield township, passed away Saturday [May 12, 1923] at St. Anthony's hospital in Michigan City at the age of 56 years. Mrs. Shippee had been ill for about 18 months. The remains were brought to the Ebbert parlors in this city where they may be viewed by friends. Funeral services will be conducted at the Springville church tomorrow afternoon [May 15, 1923] at 2 o'clock, Rev. Mr. Wilkin officiating, with burial in the Shippeeburg cemetery.

The deceased was a native of Newark, O., where she was born January 6, 1867, and had been a resident of LaPorte county since she was a girl of 16 years. Her marriage to Mr. Shippee took place in New Buffalo, Mich., in 1885. Eight children survive with the husband. The children are Otis, Carl, Clifford, Osborn and Hosea, sons, and three daughters, Hattie Wiltfong, Lula Sargent and Beulah Diedrich. One son died in infancy. There are also two brothers, Samuel and Abe Agnew, the former of Shaler, Iowa, and the latter of LaPorte. The two sisters are Mrs. Callie Taylor, of Shaler, Iowa, and Kate King, of Newark, Ohio.
