Mrs. Mabel Shippy Dies In Nappanee

Mrs. Mabel May Shippy, 67, former Kendallville resident and the mother of Robert and Franklin Shippy, this city, died at 10 p.m. Friday [June 1, 1956] in the Elkhart General hospital, where she had been a patient two weeks.

Born Nov. 25, 1888, in Columbia City, she was married in this city Jan. 12, 1908, to Clare C. Shippy, who survives. She was a daughter of Frank L. and Agatha Baker.

A Nappanee resident 22 years, Mrs. Shippy was a member of the Grace EUB church in this city.

Surviving besides the husband and the two sons are another son, Emmett Shippy, New Carlisle; a sister, Mrs. Maude Palmer, Kendallville; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The body has been taken to the Wright funeral home in Nappanee, where it will lie in state from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Sunday. Services will then be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday [June 4, 1956] in the Evangelical United Brethren church here, with Rev. Norman E. Detroy of the Nappanee church officiating. Burial, Lakeview cemetery.
